Way Way before we left #1
SUMMER 2025
It all began many years ago—almost like a fairytale story.
Once upon a time, there was a boy who was told stories of an incredible God who had created a marvelous world. From a young age, a curiosity to explore that creation took root within him. But—as often happens in real life, unlike in fairytales—over the years, decisions, responsibilities, and unexpected twists caused that dream to be put on hold.
On the other hand, there was a girl who loved camping and nature, and who dreamed of discovering the world—even though she had never actually gone out of her home country.
Life took its course, and one day, those two crossed paths. Together, they started a family, and with it, a new dream was born: not merely to travel the world, but to do so as a family. And so on Twenty years ago, the greatest adventure of all arrived: becoming parents.
Amidst an early pregnancy, numerous challenges, and the task of building a home, the dream of traveling didn't vanish entirely... it simply remained parked at the bottom of their hearts for a little while. And so, *Los Sagi* was born—a name that combines both last names *SALAMANCA* and *GIRALDO *—because this story has always belonged to them both. Over the years, they lived in Colombia, Argentina, and later in the States, Thats when Mathi joined the equation.
These were seasons filled with study, work, ups and downs, and countless lessons learned. Yet, they always sought to get away at least once a year to discover a new place together as a family. That was their way of keeping THE dream alive.
In the States, they enjoyed stability, steady jobs, a home, cherished memories, and a life that appeared—on the surface—to be perfect. Natalia was living out one of her own dreams working in radio, where she spent six years telling stories alongside an incredible team. But God had other plans.
Through trip after trip on mission work to Guatemala—working closely with children—God gently reminded them of their true calling: to serve, to love, and to sow seeds of hope in the hearts of the little ones.
While Hugo was already eager to drop everything and go, Natalia still needed time. Until, one day, everything just clicked. Isabella was on the verge of graduating high school, and college was just around the corner. They felt that if they didn't make the leap right then and there, life would once again beat them to the finish line.
So they set a date: September 10, 2025.
Without overthinking it, they made the decision to change EVERYTHING. It wasn't a preparation that took years, but rather just six months: faith, madness, organization, goodbyes, colossal dreams, and countless family conversations. Although Mathias wasn't entirely convinced at first, as it meant leaving behind friends, school, and his normal routine. But six months later, they are living out what, for so many years, had seemed impossible.
A dream that began 20 years ago—one that weathered pauses, fears, different countries, children, work, and a thousand twists and turns—has today become their reality.
And yes, it isn't always perfect.
But it is, without a doubt,
the greatest journey of their lives.
